I'd have to say this book was disappointing. It was a little bit tedious to read the narrator speak in a faux Irish manner (he's from Chicago although is wife is Irish). The story plods along. The ending is predictable. Blah. I borrowed this from a friend - I'm glad I didn't buy it.
Okay, so this was possibly one of the most wonderful, inspiring books I have ever read. I haven't had time to read much, so I usually only pick up books that have been in my mother's book club or reccomended by more than one person. This book is beautiful and funny. I loved the way it descibed people and characters. It illustrated quite nicely how possible it is to overcome every odd and what it is like to break out of the mold and be your own person. And like the cover of hte book says-- it did make me proud to be a human being!
