3 1/2 stars for me. Now having said that, that doesn't mean that I didn't like the book as much as the others...I did. We met Djinn Khalil at the end of the last book, where he became fascinated with Grace and her two kids. He keeps hanging around, until he has to come to admit that it is more than the kids that keep drawing him back to the house. For Grace's part, she will admit that she is attracted to the big hunk of energy, but with taken the kids after her sister and brother in law was killed in an accident, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and trying to keep her house from falling down around her head, she really has zero time to have a romance. That was what was really good about this book. This book was much more low key as far as interaction with outside forces. I mean I didn't feel the frantic pace that I felt in the other stories. Alot of the book was just Grace and Kahlil falling in love. We do see Carling and Rune, as well as Dragos, but they are short scenes. Here is where I struggled with the book. I never had a firm grasp in my head of what Khalil was. Was he just energy that could manifest into a body form...what?? I couldn't see him in my head as well as I wanted to. I don't blame Thea for that, I just couldn't see what kind of being he truly was. Also the plot in the end by the secret coven... I am not sure by doing what they had done to Grace was going to accomplish their goal. That was a bit muddy to me. I am going to go back reread the ending just to see if I can make more sense of pieces of it. I really liked Grace and Khalil as a couple and Khalil melted my heart around the kids. I am looking forward to the next one, might we be getting a 2nd installment of the Dragos and Pia show???? I hope so because I sure wasn't ready for their story to be over.
** spoiler alert ** Wow. Such an interesting premise. But....um....this is a kid's book??? I found the 'other mother' image disturbing. And the gooey dad in the basement??? And 'here's a needle and thread for you to sew buttons on your eyes'....um, yeah. Ok. Not really scary so much, but...not really a kid's book.
