For anyone wanting a virtual encyclopaedia of the facts behind the lies that make up Mormonism - this is the ultimate reference book. It is not something most people would read through cover to cover - although I have. I also used it extensively to check my own facts when writing on this subject. An invaluable work and highly recommended.

I loved this gossipy collection of anecdotes concerning Northwest artists of a bygone era. I bought it because Wehr includes selective recollections of Mark Tobey and Pehr Hallsten who, when I was in high school, were friends and occasional dinner guests of my family. In fact, I was the chaffeur for them whenever they accepted my mother's invitations for her delicious homecooking. Wehr covers personal encounters and friendships with a spectrum of artists, including the talented artist, John Utti, who artfully framed some of the greatest paintings being produced in the Pacific Northwest. I remembered how phobic Tobey was about travel (no airplanes), but learned for the first time how cheap he was when it came to hotels. For instance, he slept in an alcove in the back of the Marion Willard Gallery in NYC when his shows were there. If you want to read personal comments about Hilda Morris, Jackson Pollock, Lionel Feinenger, Mark Ritter,Guy Anderson, Kenneth Callahan, Morris Graves, etc., and LOTS of stuff about Wehr himself, read it. Otherwise, leave it on the shelf.
